In 2009, we decided to celebrate Christmas by heading south to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, staying at the lovely Riu Tequila. While the resort wasn’t directly on the beach, we had full beach access through a nearby sister property, giving us the best of both worlds: resort comfort and sunny Caribbean sands.
Our days were spent relaxing on the beach, soaking up the warm sun, listening to the waves, and enjoying time together—a perfect prelude to the busy holiday season ahead. It was a special way to pause, recharge, and enjoy a slower pace, especially before the work bustle set in.
With its combination of relaxation, scenic beauty, and festive spirit, Playa del Carmen offered the ideal Christmas getaway, creating memories of sun, sand, and quality time that we still cherish today.
